Birth Control Contraceptive Methods Continued...

The following is a continuation of our comprehensive birth control guide.

Diaphragm, Cervical caps, shields

These things are inserted in the vagina before having sex. They can be less effective than a condom or birth control. With typical use of these choices 16 out of 100 women will get pregnant. You must go to a doctor to get fitted for diaphragms, cervical caps, and shields. You may have to go in several times to get refitted if you gain weight or you get pregnant. Although they can be inserted ahead of time, it can be difficult for some women to get in. All of which are used with a spermicidal jelly or foam.

Advantages:
  • Usually can't be felt by either partner
  • Can be inserted hours ahead of actual intercourse so no interruptions happen.
  • Immediately effective and reversible

Disadvantages:

  • May be difficult for some women to insert
  • Diaphragms and caps usually require fitting and refitting
  • they are a one time use like condoms.
  • May be pushed out of place by some sexual positions, penis sizes, and thrusting techniques and angles

Condoms

They may be the oldest and most popular form of birth control. As with anything they have their advantages and disadvantages. They come in many different colors, sizes, and styles. So whether you're in a blue mood or glow in the dark mood, you have a choice to what you want. Some studded, other's heat sensitive. The majority of women who have tried both don't notice that much difference though. They are the only effective way to protect against STI's (sexually transmitted infections), STD's (sexually transmitted diseases), and HIV. They do have a way of interfering with the mood though. Having to stop, go grab one, and put it on can be a hassle. A lot of people do not know how to correctly put one on, causing the condom to break or not work effectively. They are also only 95-97 percent effective. Anyone can buy condoms and they are readily available. It is very important to never use 2 condoms at the same time nor use the same condom twice.

Advantages:
  • No Prescriptions or doctor visits needed
  • Anyone can easily bought at stores with pharmacies
  • Protects against STI's and STD's.

Disadvantages:

  • Must use a new one each time you have sex
  • Can be a hassle to interrupt the moment to grab one and put it on.
